Bruce Henry Smith passed away on April 3, at Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan in Ludington, after a year-long courageous battle against cancer. He was born May 11, 1939, in Ludington, to Henry Smith and Esther Ludy. He married the former JoAnn Benedict on June 24, 1989. Bruce lived his entire life in Mason County, except for twenty winters in Florida, and summer trips to their St. Mary?s River property. He retired from Dow after thirty-four years of service. Bruce was a member of the United Methodist Church, and enjoyed golf, fishing, the outdoors, and watching college football and basketball games.Bruce is survived by his wife JoAnn; daughter Pamela Smith; stepchildren, Susan Kiel and Charles Coleman; his sister-in-laws; and brother-in-laws Eloise Smith, Avery and Jane Benedict, Robert and Sara Jones; and many nieces; nephews; and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and four sisters.
A memorial service will be held on his birth date, Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m., at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, or Hospice of Michigan.
