Okinawa Japanese Steakhouse in Canton recently returned to higher food safety levels after dipping below satisfactory in February.
The restaurant at 1359 Riverstone Parkway, Suite 120, received a 90 (A) during its March 7 follow-up exam, according to the report. Its routine score was a 55 (U), resulting from violations such as substandard hand-washing procedures, improper storage of ready-to-eat and raw foods, and inadequate cleanliness levels.
Other citations during the routine visit included a stopped-up Dumpster pad drain, damaged cutting boards, a missing sweep on the back door and plumbing issues, the report showed.
Some of the plumbing problems at the restaurant resulted from a water main break in the area, said assistant manager Lee Robertson. New tile has been installed and a detail cleaning job has been performed, he said.
Although the follow-up report showed that most of the infractions were corrected, the inspector noted that the consumer advisory was still not correct on menu as required.
Robertson said the advisory has been taken care of since then. He also said that more food safety training for employees has been performed and that he will be taking the food safety certification class. The owner is certified, Robertson said, noting the inspector advised that the owner?s certification can only apply to one of his restaurants.
